Called The Gem of the desert La Quinta was incorporated in 1982 named after the famous La Quinta Hotel, a historic landmark started in 1926 as a secluded getaway for the rich and famous, now known as The La Quinta Resort & Spa with golf and tennis. Growth and prosperity have been balanced with maintaining the small town charm that appealed to the many people who now call La Quinta home.

La Quinta has activities for everyone, shopping, and world-class restaurants. The La Quinta Senior Center with its many events and activities, the library, the arts have long been part of La Quinta culture, with some art foundation events throughout the year.

There are over 20 public parks featuring everything from basketball courts, soccer fields, skate parks, picnic areas, swimming and La Quinta Silver Rock golf course is one the Bob Hope Chrysler classic courses, as a resident you pay only $55 to play this championship golf course.

Over 114 acres have been set aside for exploring the majestic mountains surrounding the city. The Cove Oasis trailhead is a gateway to many trails that wind into the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountains for your hiking experience.
